This is actually an old bit that I’m revisting. Ready.gov has a series of helpful and confusing brochures and fliers on what to do in a variety of situations ranging from terrorist attacks to flooding. The pictograms on the fliers are similar to those ridiculous airplane safety cards. The idea came to me when I found I could make people laugh by recaptioning the safety cards decades ago. “Safety First” will be a new look at Ready.org’s helpful nonsense as well as some useful information regarding flying safety. Enjoy.

ShareSo yesterday was the single largest traffic day in the site’s history with over 100 unique visiters showing up through out the day. It’s like that Field of Dreams movie… if you build it, they will come.
Except I’m not Kevin Costner.
And no one’s playing baseball in my backyard.
And James Earl Jones is only here as Darth Vader.
Now that I think about it… this site has nothing to do with that movie at all.

ShareIn Swahili, “beef” means “riddle”… it leads to lots of confusion at the UN and African McDonalds.
Anyway… riddles are moved to Mondays for posting. Posting before the weekend seems to leave readers in the dark for several days and I’d rather the “thought process” go on during the week. We’ll see how it goes.
And yes, there is a riddle all ready to go. Two actually.

ShareIn the spirit of friendly competition, I’ve added a “Riddle Solvers Leader Board” to the right side bar of the web site. Now people can know who is the riddle solving master and who is the riddle solving punter. Scoring is simple… you get a point for each correct solution. There are no negatives for incorrect guesses, so feel free to guess as much as you’d like.
Riddle trash talk is always welcome. Just don’t be mean. Unless it’s funny.

ShareMan… the past few weeks have been a rollercoaster. Between work, power failures, water loss, and personal events, I’ve been too busy to be funny/riddley. That will change soon.
Tomorrow I’ll be flying, and I’ve found cross-country flights to be awesome blog material. So, expect posts soon in that regard.
I’ve also got a two hour layover in Chicago. That’s a perfect time to write another riddle to post this Friday.
So… my apologies to loyal readers and I promise regular posts will return by Friday, if not sooner.

ShareSo the traffic to the site has gone up 12x since I posted the riddle contest on Friday. You guys seem to like that sorta thing, or perhaps you’re frustratingly addicted… either way, more traffic is a good thing for me. I’m planning to post a riddle/puzzle/game each Friday to keep things moving. There probably won’t be a prize each week… because I don’t have a prize budget, but hopefully you’ll enjoy it anyway.
I’ll be posting a “hint” to last week’s riddle shortly.

ShareOK, so last week I said I was going to give out a prize to a reader. That seemed like a good idea at the time, but I have no idea who the vast majority of people are who read this ( I pretend). So I decided instead of just picking someone who I know or reads the site 12 times a day, I’d have a contest. Here’s the contest… First person to correctly solve the riddle below and post the answer as a comment wins. You can post comments, guesses, etc in the comment area as well. If you want, you can even team up. Multiple prizes are not out of the question since I’m making up the rules. OK, here’s the riddle… also cheating will get you no where… ok… here it is:
In the Summer, I am of the Darkest Bloom,
In the Autumn, I smell of sweet Perfume.
In the Spring, I gather around the Room.
In the Winter, I spell impending Doom.Man’s Reach can’t catch me as Time passes By.
It takes more Than the wind to make me Fly.Can you solve this riddle?
