Month: August 2010
So yesterday was the single largest traffic day in the site’s history with over 100 unique visiters showing up through out the day. It’s like that Field of Dreams movie… if you build it, they will come.
Except I’m not Kevin Costner.
And no one’s playing baseball in my backyard.
And James Earl Jones is only here as Darth Vader.
Now that I think about it… this site has nothing to do with that movie at all.

Return of the Living Riddle -
August 30, 2010 by

Because a bird was able to trap a fly,
My situation now is to do or to die.
A masked bird awaits me, although not he alone,
Wishes to keep me away from my home.

Since the first one went so quickly, here’s another one.
If you were me, it’s not I that you envy.
Despite charm and fame, it’s not easy being me.

I can’t take full credit for this one. It wasn’t my idea at all, I just sorta editted it.
I am something you may play, pass, or take.
Or I am a thought that you don’t want to shake.
I can spur your memory immediately to action.
Or help the Stones to achieve Satisfaction.

Seriously? -

So… there’s a current political debate running around the nation that I feel motivated to write about. It’s not likely going to be a terribly funny piece, more likely angry and might offend some people. I’m wondering whether I should write it for this blog or post it somewhere else.
I figured I’d ask you all. What do you think? Would you like to hear a political rant here or would you prefer for me to keep the tone light and stay out of it (here anyway).

Where’s the Beef? -
August 21, 2010 by

In Swahili, “beef” means “riddle”… it leads to lots of confusion at the UN and African McDonalds.
Anyway… riddles are moved to Mondays for posting. Posting before the weekend seems to leave readers in the dark for several days and I’d rather the “thought process” go on during the week. We’ll see how it goes.
And yes, there is a riddle all ready to go. Two actually.

Thanks and Stuff -
August 17, 2010 by
monty
I want to extend a happy thank you to folks who have continued to visit the site and participate in the Riddles, comments, etc. After being online in this venue for 8 months, I’m averaging just over 60 people visiting the site on days I post new content (and about half that on days I don’t).
In the coming weeks I plan to be adding a few new features. To offset some costs, I’m going to be offering some links to Amazon for DVDs, Blu-Ray disks when I reference such a thing in a post. If you buy the movie referenced, I get a percentage. No banner ads or that sorta thing. The audio editions are in production and once I’ve got the format figured out, those will start appearing on the site and via iTunes. The shirts are still a work in progress. I had a design made and then decided I didn’t like it. People who have won shirts for riddles should be seeing them in about 3-4 weeks.
As always, any word of mouth, direct linking, facebook reposting, etc support is always welcome and appreciated. If the Amazon thing works out, I’ll go back to advertising the site on Google and Facebook, but for now I can’t justify the cost. So it’s up to you, fearless readers, to help bring in more people.
As long as people keep visiting/reading, I’ll keep writing.
Thanks again for your continued support.

People that know me would not dispute the fact that it is a well understood notion that I consider myself to be the absolute center and most important piece of my own universe. If I were to be shown the entire infinite universe in one viewing with my being as represented by a speck of a speck with a red arrow pointing to it stating “You Are Here”, instead of feeling small and insignificant, I’d probably point out that I was clearly more significant to the universe otherwise I wouldn’t have merited the sign. It’s not an overdeveloped sense of self importance, it’s a right where it should be sense of self importance. Despite being so terribly important in my own little brain, I don’t flaunt that. I’m very much aware that I am the only person who considers me the center of the universe and as such I don’t demand special attention… although I will accept it if offered. I’m very careful to make sure that my mental fiefdom doesn’t intrude upon anyone else’s. This little balance of power has worked rather well for the most part. I wander around blithely feeling important but not imposing that on anyone and the rest of the world acts in kind. It all falls down when I run into someone who thinks they’re the center of their own universe and I should care in the slightest.
