OK, so last week I said I was going to give out a prize to a reader. That seemed like a good idea at the time, but I have no idea who the vast majority of people are who read this ( I pretend). So I decided instead of just picking someone who I know or reads the site 12 times a day, I’d have a contest. Here’s the contest… First person to correctly solve the riddle below and post the answer as a comment wins. You can post comments, guesses, etc in the comment area as well. If you want, you can even team up. Multiple prizes are not out of the question since I’m making up the rules. OK, here’s the riddle… also cheating will get you no where… ok… here it is:
In the Summer, I am of the Darkest Bloom,
In the Autumn, I smell of sweet Perfume.
In the Spring, I gather around the Room.
In the Winter, I spell impending Doom.Man’s Reach can’t catch me as Time passes By.
It takes more Than the wind to make me Fly.Can you solve this riddle?

a fart?
Honestly. I’m stumped. I’m commenting because I didn’t want you to think no one had read your post.
Michelle, That’s kind of you. If no one gets it right, you win.
Next time my parents ask where my sense of humor came from, I’m pointing at you.
Franci, that’s actually pretty funny and kinda fits. Not what I had in mind, but it’s a good try.
The only thing that really gathers around my room is dustbunnies. It would take a LOT of them to spell impending doom.
And, they DO fly around when I open a window.
So I’m guessing it’s not dustbunnies.
Your hair?
Negative to dustbunnies and hair.
Is it a flower?
Ha, I almost did what Michelle did and commented just to say I felt rather clueless about what it is (ironic given that the entire riddle is made of clues). I didn’t, but since she did, I’ll add my comment of not-knowingness!
Hmmmm…
It’s not a flower.
Em, you know more than you think.
What I want to know is is where the hell do you come up with this s***? And I’d almost be willing to give a prize to whoever figures this thing out!
I assume it’s not pollen, but that’s all I can come up with. Pathetic, I know. But whatever, figured I’d write something down.
Mercedes, something is wrong with my brain and strange things like this fall out. I have no idea how I come up with it either.
Pollen is not the answer.
Here’s a clue:
One line of the riddle is of much greater significance than the rest.
no.
schvin is the winner!
The other day “thunderstorm” occurred to me until I came back and read it again…thunderstorms don’t seem to gather ’round rooms in spring….
Back to the drawing board!
Hey, thanks for the clue — why don’t you tell us which line it is? (
)
I should explain… Schvin has correctly solved the riddle. The answer is “no”. The last line of the riddle is “Can you solve this riddle?” The answer is “no”. The lines prior were pretty much nonsense that rhymed.
Many of the ideas you all suggested were pretty good and almost fit.
Schvin has won a free, official Posthumorous.org t-shirt. I’ll be posting photos of what they look like and if people want to buy one, that’s fine but I figure I’ll mostly give them away as prizes.
